//picturesque Oegstgeest neighbourhood along the Rhine

New Rhijngeest

urban plan

With Sterreschans to the historic Valkenburgerweg and Ouder Rijnsburgerweg, a third north–south route has been added between the Rhine and the A44. Between the routes, a network of streets and canals has been laid out. The introduction of the Binnenrijn has created islands along the Rhine on which villas with spacious waterside gardens have been developed. A wall of apartment buildings along the A44 screens the plan from motorway noise. The heart of the plan is inspired on historic Dutch canal cities. To the south, Park Landskroon forms a buffer between the residential area and Leiden Bio Science Park. A childcare centre, shops and hospitality venues are located on the northern side of the plan. From the neighbourhood, the Rhine can be reached by boat, partly thanks to the sufficiently high bridges.
