Optimising policies
There’s a lot of value in housing cooperations. They create a sense of community, ownership, are sustainable and affordable on the long term. It’s the ultimate hack for the current housing crisis. Vienna, Zurich and Hamburg are cities with a proper policy and beautiful examples. In these cities this ‘third way of living’ between buying and renting is substantial. Proper policy doesn’t appear out of thin air though. The current system needs to be altered. Cu·rio·city is part of the Rotterdam Coalition for Cooperative housing. RoCoCo is the intermediate between the municipality and general public. Together with the municipality RoCoCo explores what needs to change so Rotterdam can make it happen. Knowledge is built in the process. In the end every city should have this ‘third way of living’ and every neighbourhood should have a cooperative housing project. With Cu·rio·City we bring this knowledge and network of experts so cooperative housing can be properly integrated in every project, where desired. Housing crisis or not, every project is even better when cooperative housing is part of it. With their tailored designs housing cooperations are curiosities in their own right.
