//Living between abundantly green canals in Vathost, Amersfoort

Laak 2

urban plan

The plan is inspired by traditional Dutch canal cities. Sub-area Laak 2a, Phase 1, is intersected by two canals. The wide Schoolgracht canal separates the sub-area from Laak 1. Along the northern edge free standing houses overlook the landscape. The western edge of the northern and central sections is defined by quay houses. A pocket park with playground is located along the southern canal. The street layout divides the plan into building plots. Within each plot, parking is arranged in a courtyard. For two plots along the Schoolgracht, this consists of covered parking, integrated among the apartment buildings. On the southern side, an existing farmhouse forms part of the building block, serving as a landmark within the scheme. As a distinct feature the corner buildings are rounded.
