//weaving the gap with a versatile urban neighbourhood
Nieuw Delft
urban plan
Lowering of the railroads in Delft removed a longstanding barrier within the city. Van Leeuwenhoek Park forms a central meeting place atop the railway tunnel. Through ‘weaving the gap’ principle, cross-connections weave the districts on either side. New canals extend the canal network of the historic city centre. Flexibility in development options and typologies allowed for a variety of ways of building block realisation, ranging from self-build to project development. Supervision ensured cohesive yet various architecture. With Delft Station within walking distance and parking monitoring, parking facilities have been kept to a minimum. Tailored solutions were applied for each building block. The plan provides for residential and workspace, cultural programmes and amenities.
