Catch & Release

conceptual plan

Six enclosed building blocks guide the pollen rich east wind around the blocks. They capture the clean south-westerly wind, further cleaned through the park by air-purifying trees. This wind provides cooling within the blocks. The blocks are arranged with a rock garden, pine trees, kitchen gardens, swimming pond, butterfly garden and orchard. Rainwater is collected and channelled towards a ‘wet quay’, creating the illusion of being part of the River Maas. Here, however, the water is easily accessible so it offers heat relief. Cleansed by the wind through the windflow from badgirs, it then flows onwards to cisterns. This clean water is used to further remove pollen from the inner courtyards. In this way, even urban dwellers suffering from hay fever, are offered a place to be in times of climate change.
